BV Sreekantan, then director of TIFR, writes to the Atomic Energy Commission, request more funds for MR Das' virology programme in the molecular biology unit at TIFR. The funds for molecular biology in the five year plan at the time had been requested for neurobiology work, and the usual funding agencies like Wellcome Trust were not likely to fund cancer research in India at the time.
