Obaid Siddiqi's proposal to the DRDO for a project on "molecular biology of chemical senses in insects". It was a time when military around the world was taking interest in such research. DARPA, the US military research wing, approached universities for collaborations that will use insects as part of apparatus for explosive scent tracking.
