When Homi Bhabha set up TIFR, he also ensured that the new institute will have a full fledged technical group to cater to the experimental needs of its researchers. Over the years, the TIFR glass blowing facility acquired a reputation for its skilled work. They would frequently collaborate with researchers in the molecular biology unit to develop apparatus like fly mazes and K.S. Krishnan’s famed ‘sushi cooker’, a double-walled glass device to control temperature and isolate mutations.
