After reading a paper by Vijay Sarathy and Obaid Siddiqi on bacterial recombination, Veronica Rodrigues, who was studying in Dublin, Ireland, sends a letter to Obaid Siddiqi expressing her interest in joining for a PhD. She would later build simple and elegant assays to study olfactory behaviour of Drosophila.
